Track of the Day: Mord Fustang’s “Drivel”
Mord Fustang is coming out with his newest album 9999 in 1 on January 20th and so far the best pre-released track is “Drivel”– a track that at six minutes long carries its weight well (listen to the track above!). With high energy throughout the entire track and an exciting melodic line, this track pulls you through. Compared to Mord Fustang’s latest release “Dopplegangbanger,”which is roughly the same length as “Drivel,” Drivel carries its weight well and keep you entranced the whole time. Full of captivating and well-timed peaks and drops, plus really nice layering, it is no wonder Mord’s fans have been raving about the track.
What you’ll notice in Mord Fustang’s music is the clear old school videogame style, which gives it an up-beat and quick-paced vibe. According to Mord Fustang, “70% of my body is videogames… The title [of 9999 in 1] comes from the random numbers they always had on the plastic yellow cartridges. The album is a 8-bit homage to the nostalgia I have for those games.” A similar artist of the video-game-inspired genre would be Kavinsky— if you’re a fan of Kavinsky, you’ll probably like Mord Fustang (and vice versa). Both artists bring in a high-energy show that is not to be missed out on. We have our fingers crossed that Mord Fustang announces a new tour once the album is out, since his show is always of epic proportions and visualizer opportunities are endless with tracks like these.
Besides “Dopplegangbanger” and “Drivel,” the other track previewed from Mord Fustang’s new album is “Pop,” another fun, though very different, track featuring LIINKS. As the name implies, this track is more of a pop track that you will definitely be hearing on the radio and is definitely one of my guilty pleasures:
