TOTD: The Radio Dept. – “We Got Game”
It’s always refreshing to hear a familiar sound — namely that of indie dream pop band The Radio Dept. These Swedes, however, have an agenda in mind, and with their latest album, Running Out of Love, it’s clear to see what it is. Johan Duncanson and Martin Carlberg turned the fruit of their labor into something the world is in desperate need of — protest.
House-influenced track, “We Got Game,” is a declaration of the band’s stance on police brutality. “You keep talking middle ground / so sick of hearing about that middle ground” struck a chord with me, more so after reading the latest in American politics and the commentary that follows. Running Out of Love has been several years in the making, and with it comes a politically charged anthems. One particular track, “Swedish Guns,” takes aim at the Swedish arms industry.
