TOTD: Holiday Mountain – “Cómo Te Llamas (feat. Mexican Institute of Sound)”
Austin keeps it weird. Very weird. That’s part of the city’s charm though. The oddity of Texas’ capital is only extended with Holiday Mountain‘s latest video for “Cómo Te Llamas.” Inspired by aerobic videos from the one and only, Jane Fonda, Laura Patiño leads viewers into joining her for light exercising on the treadmill and stretching. The other half of Holiday Mountain, the extremely adorable Zander Kagle, makes an appearance towards the end. The absurdity is heightened when Patiño dons attire similar to famed singer and dancer, Carmen Miranda. Not a bad comparison at all, to be honest. Camilo Lara, the man behind Mexican Institute of Sound, adds a little colorful vibe and zombie shuffle while Patiño graces the screen with neon makeup and a brilliant blacklight strobe party.
In a statement to Stereogum, Patiño explained the video was born out of “YouTube culture and cyber revolution” with the editing being a “digital punk” approach. In this day and age, nothing shocks me but this video completely took me by surprise. There are no words that convey the experience; I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched it and my love for it is insurmountable. The art, the touch of surrealism, how can you not walk away and think of it?!
In addition to their music video, this electronic duo announced their sophomore album, SHIA, will be available August 12. Based on what I’ve heard, I can only expect great things with a touch of humor and quality tunes. Watch the music video down below!
