Three Ways to Make the Most of Aura Music & Arts Festival
If you have ever been to a music festival at the magically beautiful Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, then you know that you go for – the music, of course, but you also keep coming back for the atmosphere. Once you have danced the night away under the oaks at the Amphitheatre Stage or relaxed on River Beach staring up at the stars, you get hooked on those Live Oak vibes and no other venue can compete. So, with only two weeks left before the 7th annual Aura Music and Arts Festival, we wanted to direct your attention to a few festival highlights that you are not going to want to miss during this year’s festivities.
Find Your Zen
Aura Music and Arts festival is so much more than a weekend of some of the best live music around; it is a way of life. This year, the experience includes a huge Yoga & Healing Arts program featuring over 25 classes and workshops throughout the weekend. Whether you are a master yogi looking to relax and restore with some Yoga Nidra, or explore other types of movement including Qi Gong and Martial Arts, or you are interested in learning more about using essential oils or song sound healing with crystal bowls, you will be able to find your bliss in the plethora of options being offered. With the sheer volume and diversity of yoga and healing arts activities available, it’s almost like a full-on retreat within the festival. Even if you have never done any type of yoga in your life, definitely make sure to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.
Represent the Florida Funk
One of the great things about pretty much all of the festivals that have made their home at Suwannee is the fact that they are never shy about showing local love and showcasing talent from all over the Sunshine State. Of course the big names like Snarky Puppy, Thievery Corporation and The Disco Biscuits are not to be missed, but the Aura lineup is also stacked with some hometown favorites. Go explore throughout the day and get down with Lucky Costello and Fusik on Thursday, jam out with Tampa’s Displace on Saturday, and definitely do not miss Jacksonville’s Greenhouse Lounge when they take the stage on Thursday for their final performance before taking a hiatus for the remainder of 2016. Keeping the Florida love going on Saturday, The Heavy Pets have a massive ’80s tribute set planned featuring the smoking Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman on horns; it’s sure to be one of the musical highlights of the entire festival.
Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park is already one of the most visually stunning places to host a music festival, but throw in all of the amazing visual artists that are set to beautify the park with their creative installations, and all of the sudden, you find yourself in a colorful oasis for the senses. This year, the park will be studded with the mystical art of Emily Kell, large-scale designs from Nick Tarr, live painting by Rob Munger, Laura Sellers and many more. Don’t let the weekend pass you by without checking out these incredible artists and all of the other vendors that will be coming to share their craft.
