The M&Ms Melt in Your Mind
This Thursday, Equifunk and Nolafunk present a brand new jam funk super group at Le Poisson Rouge for a late night show with echoes of New Orleans, brought to you by the letter M. Drummer Stanton Moore and bassist Rob Mercurio of Mardi Gras band extraordinaire Galactic and fellow Louisianan guitarist Papa Mali will join forces with New York’s own John Medeski on the Hammond B3 organ and an array of other keys in the collective fittingly dubbed The M&Ms.
Galactic’s rhythm section, honed over years in New Orleans and beyond should provide a cushy backbeat for the bluesy funk of Papa Mali’s fretwork, which has recently been featured in 7 Walkers with Grateful Dead beat keeper Bill Kreutzmann. John Medeski, best known as a third of jazz funk experimentalists Medeski Martin & Wood, recently released a solo piano album, but will likely be veering towards less staid ground with impossibly squelchy organ riffs at this particular gig. Suffice it to say, it would behoove you to wear comfortable shoes.
The show is May 23, doors at 9:30 PM, show at 10:30 PM. Click HERE for tickets and watch some videos featuring the band members below.
