Suwannee Hulaween Packing Essentials
Suwannee Hulaween will return to Live Oak, FL for its fourth consecutive year from October 28-30, 2016. Every year on Halloween weekend, Suwannee attracts the weird and the wonderful from across the country to take part in an annual celebration of life, love, music and all things funky. Consistently dropping stellar lineups and providing amazing experiences to attendees, Hulaween is definitely one of the largest and most anticipated themed festivals of the year.
Silver Wrapper and Purple Hat Productions work hard each year to bring in some of the best artists and the most immersive experience to attendees; the rest is up to you. We’ve compiled a list of some Hulaween packing essentials that you will definitely want to bring this year.
— Sunblock: Yes, we know, it’s October… why would you need sunblock? Well, aside from the fact that 2016 has been the warmest year on record, the festival is in Florida; enough said. It might be the middle of Autumn, but October in Florida can still feel like summer, with temperatures often reaching the mid to high 80s and the sun is just as strong. Take care of yourself and take care of your skin.
— Rain boots: These should be a staple at every festival, but especially at one in Florida with its oftentimes unpredictable weather. Trust us, you won’t regret taking up a little extra space to save your feet the pain and suffering of walking through sludge.
— Mosquito Repellent: Yeah, we know, it smells bad and some people don’t like it because of the chemicals — but real talk — with Zika being a prevalent threat, especially in Florida right now, you need to bring bug spray… and apply it often. Unless you want to run the risk of bringing something back with you other than memories, leave room in your bag for a can or two.
— Hammock: If you have a hammock, Hulaween is probably one of the best places to bring it. With so many trees inside the venue there is always a spot to set up and chill, and what’s more, you can also post up in your camping area since the entire venue is basically consumed my trees. Truly a place where music meets nature.
— Good vibes and positive attitude: Seriously, if you “just aren’t feeling it” or come into the event with a negative outlook, don’t go. Suwannee is a place where people get to be blissfully happy for a weekend because the real world is hard enough as it is. Leave your baggage at the door because no one wants to carry it for you.
— A sense of wonder: This is the perfect place to think like a child again. You will see and hear things that you can only appreciate when you take a step back and marvel at the simple fact that you are in a magical place. Leave your preconceived notions at home and enter Suwannee with a fresh outlook on how life can be when you appreciate the little things; it will truly be the best weekend of the year.
— An open mind: We admit it, you will see things at Suwannee that you might not have seen before, especially if you are a festival newbie. The most important part of Hulaween – or any festival – is to keep an open mind, don’t judge and be receptive to what the festival and the people will teach you. We guarantee if you go into it with an open mind, you will come out of it with a changed perspective.
