Leave Britney Alone! B. Spears Suffers Backlash for Leaked Song
Let our foreword be honest: there is an extreme bias present in this article.
How could we not be biased? When the Pop Princess herself is under attack, it is the responsibility of her ’90s butterfly-clipped original minions to rise to her aid — support she certainly could have used in the past few days. On July 2nd, a raw version of the track “Alien,” which hailed from her most recent album Britney Jean (released November 2013) was leaked without Spears’ now-notorious penchant for auto-tune. This stripped track, which some have described as simply “painful,” features Britney’s voice untouched… and a tad rough. There is also a question of whether the original version of this stripped track has been even further tampered with, in a repugnant attempt to further discredit the true Mrs. Justin Timberlake. Compare the tracks for yourself: the stripped version is available above the article, and the polished version can be viewed below.
But more people than just ourselves are willing to step up to the plate to bat for Ms. Spears — and producer William Orbit went so far as to make an open statement about the raw track, defending the at-time off-key and warbling nature of Britney’s voice in the take. “Warming up is essential if you’re a pro, as it is with a runner doing stretches, and it takes a while to do properly. I’ve heard all manner of sounds emitted during warmups. The point is that it is not supposed to be shared with millions of listeners,” Orbit states, which is only a portion of his adamant defense of the 32-year-old pop singer (more of which you can read on his Facebook). He further stated that Spears was merely laying down initial vocals to help the producer calibrate his systems and warm up to the sound — and that what was recently heard was not even remotely reflective of Spears’ natural talent. Whether or not this public stand is espoused because of Orbit’s deep belief in the singer’s right to have garbled takes, or merely a cover-up for what might be a faulty voice, remains to be seen.
To all the haters, we have just one thing to say: you talk a big game, but you know all the words to “Crazy” and all the dance moves to “Oops, I Did It Again.” Don’t pretend you don’t! LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!
