Savoy Participates in AMA in Anticipation of New Album and Tour
On January 13, 2014 at 9pm, Savoy launched into an exciting AMA on Reddit as fans gear up for their new album Self Predator (to be released tomorrow, January 14) and their latest Get Lazer’d tour (round two starts this Thursday, January 16). Here are some of the highlights from the AMA:
What do you think it’s going to take for producers to start taking risks again with their productions rather than just pandering to the masses?
Savoy: I think it works in cycles. People will eventually get sick of what works for the masses now and eventually producers will realize this and try something new. You can only do the same thing so many times. I think DJs are sometimes afraid to take risks because they know what works in a live setting and they don’t want to stray too far from it. It only takes one person to try something different that works and then a bunch of people will follow that. A lot of times an audience is content with what they’ve been hearing until someone takes a risk and it blows everyone away.
What genres are interesting or inspiring right now for you guys? What genres do you feel like have stagnated, and need artists to push the boundaries more?
Savoy: I think the most inspiring genre for us right now is the french/electro/techno sound. Two of the most inspiring shows we’ve been to lately are Gesaffelstein Live and Kavinsky Live. We love when people play live shows and only play their own music. / We kinda think that bigroom electro/ progressive house have stagnated. You hear a lot of tracks on certain labels and on beatport that sound very similar and sometimes when your at a festival with those genre’s you tend to hear the same song over and over again, which is lame!
What has been your favorite venue to play, and/or headline? I don’t want to sway the outcome of your answer, but the place I have raged with you guys the hardest rhymes with shred smocks…
Any news on you joining us in the Forest for 2014? Your lasers would make one insane set in Sherwood!
Savoy: we’re down! pushing them on booking us now, hit em up and let em know you want to see us there!
What was it like collaborating with Big Gigantic? Did your work flows work well together in blending both of your own styles together ?
