Rock N Roll Resort v3: Tiny Rager
What is something that I don’t totally love about festivals, you ask? That moment when you’re just laying down on the hard ground in your tent and the sun is coming up and it’s starting to get uncomfortably hot. A real bed after raging hard is the ultimate in a cushy festival experience and at Rock n Roll Resort v3: Tiny Rager you get just that. Located at the Hudson Valley Resort & Spa in Kerhonkson, NY, this festival provides it all: plush location, 40+ hours of music, live art, workshops, a pool, and food!
Rock n Roll Resort prides it’s self in the family feel of the experience. On their FAQ page under the question, “Can I bring my kids?” the response is, “Yes, please BRING THE CHILDREN!!! We at Rock n Roll Resort love to see the kids enjoy the music, art, land and adventure. There is an awesome playground onsite at the resort, mini-golf, arcade, pool, basketball and tennis courts and plenty of room to romp for kids and families. Children under the age of 12 years are free.” Even the tiniest ragers get to come along. But I also don’t necessarily mean “family feel” so literally; they have the festival family feel. Festival goers literally take over the hotel and mingle with the artists themselves all weekend long. Everyone gets a sense that they are a part of the music community and get to spend time with people who care about that community as much as they do.
So what makes the festival a “Tiny Rager”? Last year’s Rock n Roll Resort v2: A Psybient Soiree was a full 4 days and 3 nights stacked with artists such as Shpongle (DJ set), Hallucinogen (Live), Ott., Conspirator (twice), Brothers Past (twice), and more. This year’s festival will be from Friday, April 12 to Sunday, April 14, or 3 days and 2 nights, which is perfect for those of us who, you know, work. The space is also limited, creating a really intimate setting for music lovers and music makers. As mentioned earlier, one of the main draws for this festival is it’s intimacy: fans get an opportunity to hang out with and meet artists that they would never get at a larger festival. Sometimes bigger isn’t better!
I bet you’re asking yourself, “What artists will I be chilling with?” The genres of music at the festival cover electronic, funk, bluegrass & jam band and Wicked Cool Productions specifically notes that the festival will be, “featuring an eclectic mix of up & coming super talent.” The headliners are Soulive (performing both nights), Ryan Montbleau Band, and Kung Fu. Dozens of great artists follow suit, including Normal Insturments, lespecial., Ghosts of Jupiter, Viral Sound, Alan Evans Trio, and many more.
I know what you’re thinking, how plush can this place be if there’s going to be a festival there? Well, Hudson Valley Resort and Spa is located in the Shawangunk Mountains and comes complete with amazing views of the Catskill Mountains Amenities that are available to festival goers who stay at the hotel include an indoor pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam rooms, fitness center, tennis courts, basketball courts, and even mini golf! Four meals are also included in your ticket if you stay at the resort. Staying at the resort is definitely the most convenient option, but there are different ticketing options, including different sized rooms and different day/weekend passes.
The name it totally appropriate for this festival. I’m excited for this Tiny Rager which will get me up close and personal with the artists I love while not requiring me to tell my boss I mysteriously have the flu for a week. The vibe a Rock n Roll Resort is always one of community and fun and I know that this latest installment will not let down. Check out Rock n Roll Resort’s Facebook page and purchase tickets here!
