Playthrough: The Next Big Gaming Convention
Every “nerd,” comic-book enthusiast, and self-proclaimed Video Game God loves a good gaming convention. And how could they not? These sorts of gatherings support any and all interests — from cosplay, to the latest beta testing of new video games, to swiping one-of-a-kind merch — while espousing a spirit of being yourself and pursuing what fascinates you. All around the world, events like these draw crowds of hundreds of thousands. In the eastern U.S. alone, you can find everything from ComicCon to SimCon to Pax East, big names and small names in the gaming world. And now there is another on the horizon — Playthrough.
Playthrough intends to be an all-inclusive new gaming convention that will feature video games, board games, card games — and almost every other kind of gaming you could want! The inaugural dates for the convention itself is set for the weekend of March 28th and 29th for 2015, at the Raleigh Convention Center in beautiful Raleigh, Virginia.
The idea for Playthrough came from brothers Tim and Chris Howell of Levittown, Long Island, and their close friend John Duthie. These three guys have been passionate for all types of gaming, from controller-based to table-top, since they could handle a deck of cards — and this same enthusiasm inspired them to launch a campaign to create a gaming convention that celebrated all forms of this type of play. Playthrough is still under development, and what we already know about it is so promising. The convention, lasting two days, will be jam-packed with activities for attendees, and presentations by vendors. There will be a “Free Play” area to test out games, the chance to compete in and spectate the “elimination tournament” and a cosplay fashion show, demo the latest games, purchase sweet swag from vendors of all kinds — and mostly importantly, spend a weekend surrounded by people that love gaming. Room for interested exhibitors is still available, so the list of attendees will only continue to grow. Those interested in showcasing at the event are encouraged to contact the management through their website. And for anyone who simply loves being around video games and board games, and being part of something truly unique, there is still room to volunteer! Don’t miss your chance to be involved in the forefront of this new gaming convention.
If you love the sound of this kind of convention — and who wouldn’t! — then please also consider donating to Playthrough’s Kickstarter campaign. This kind of undertaking is huge, and while the passion these three guys from Long Island have for their dream is limitless, the available funding for start-ups like these is not. Even a $1.00 contribution helps make this future convention a reality. Invest in this dream, and be a part of something great.
