Mexican house guru Frederik Mooij, now known as just Mooij, brings us his Prime EP. Mooij (pronounce moy) has been in the game since the early 2000s, producing a mix of house styles both as a solo artist and as Icarus Fly alongside Daniel Cantisani. This super talented veteran just blessed us with a majestic four track EP just in time for the weather to warm up! This scintillating collection of expertly produced bangers definitely needs to be a part of your favorite playlist.
Mooij is a very gifted sound designer who spent his college years learning the ins and outs of production in his free time, while pursuing a degree in the complex field of Industrial Design. After he graduated, he was so taken with music that he decided to forgo a lucrative career for the chance to champion the underground sounds of house music, which he feels are under-represented in the media, especially in Mexico. Clearly his hard work is paying off, because at last year’s EDC Mexico, he performed on the main stage with Icarus Fly, and his most recent EP Electro Techno, a collaboration with JELO, landed at #5 on Beatport’s Electro House chart.
is a testament to Mooij’s pristine sound construction, boasting some of the most intelligently crafted tracks that I have heard in the realm of electro house. Full of emotion, texture and musical dexterity, Prime
is an impressive effort that displays Mooij’s versatility and should definitely capture the hearts and minds of the dance music community. Tracks like “Pushing Through Sound” and “So Funked” showcase Mooij’s depth of musicianship and nuance, while “Move Yo Waistline” provides us with an adrenaline-fueled dance floor destroyer. “Love & Hate” truly shows us that Mooij can not be easily classified by one genre by combining elements of dubstep and glitch in order to create the EP’s stand out song.
