The Good, The Bad, and the Awkward: 8/13
The Good: We’ll go ahead and start with the good news. Here are the weekend highlights.
Better Call Saul:
Arguably the biggest and best TV show of all time, Breaking Bad, has given us a spin off. Everyone’s favorite criminal lawyer (take that as you may) Saul Goodman is back in his own show called Better Call Saul. The teaser video came out recently and Breaking Bad fans are eagerly awaiting to hear more. As a Walter and Jesse fan, I’m a little skeptical, but also extremely excited to see Mike one more time.
Football Preseason Opens:
Yep, we said it. Football season is upon us, kind of. The games are real, but they don’t really matter somehow. Regardless, break out that beer stained jersey and the potato chips, for fall is almost upon us. Have a friendly cookout or two while the weather is still warm, and the games are less meaningful, until you start hating your [rival team] loving neighbor all over again.
Sensible Reason Summer:
This summer has been huge for Sensible Reason. We’ve been shelling out coverage from all over the country, giving you the best from the world of politics and opinion, all the way to Belgium for TomorrowLand. The growth of SR comes from those who support us. The summer is not yet over, and we’ve got more world-wide coverage to bring you. The world keeps spinning and the news never quits. We’ll be here to bring it all to you. Thank you for what you’ve let us become, we couldn’t do it without you.
The Bad: Sometimes we forget how fragile our every day lives can be. Here’s what’s going on elsewhere.
Robin Williams 1951- 2014:
Usually in the weekend news, there are three pieces in each category. However, this week, the world of entertainment takes a moment of silence for the tragic death of Robin Williams. Battling with depression and alcoholism throughout his epic career, his death is a suspected suicide. Truly an ironic and terrible ending, he leaves behind a legacy of genius and talent. He was adored by millions and inspired the world to be as you are, no matter how wacky. He soared above most, excelling in both serious and comedic roles. As a comedian, he spoke honestly and in your face. Robin Williams made the whole world smile. Words cannot describe the silencing pain of losing a loved one. Sensible Reason sends their deep condolences to Williams’s family and friends. Watch your favorite Robin Williams movie this week, and let his love come through.
Depression is a true, honest, and terrible struggle both for those suffering and their loved ones. There is no shame in asking for help.
And The Awkward: Take it as good news, take it as bad news, but uh… here ya go.
Yep, it’s back again. The majestic dinosaurs of the deep are back. Well, they never left. Not sure why shark week is so awesome. Why isn’t there an alligator week, or a cockroach week? I think bee week would be pretty cool, spread the word on how fundamental they are to the environment. Regardless of how silly it may be, tradition is tradition and it’s always fun to get excited about something each year. Enjoy Shark Week on Discovery Channel all this week, and we’ll see ya next year.
Spice World on Netflix:
No, you’re not dreaming, the rumors are true. The ultimate movie of girl power and friendship is finally streaming on Netflix. Scary, Sporty, Baby, Posh and Ginger are on an amazing tour bus around London, doing what they do best, spread the word of girl power. This is probably the best and worst movie of the 90s generation. Everything about the fashion, filming, content, and conclusion can describe the innovation of the era. Go ahead and give Spice World another watch, you’ll be fabulously reminded how empowered we’ve become.
Porn Star Beaten by MMA Ex:
The world of Twitter is up in arms about violence against women after porn star Christy Mack posted photos of herself in a hospital bed after being brutally beaten by her ex-boyfriend, MMA fighter Jon Koppenhaver. In her statement, Mack describes a brutal and frightening endeavor, stating she feared for her life as Koppenhaver beat both her and a male friend in her apartment. While this is bad news, the statement itself is clearly made by someone trying to stay as morally and legally innocent as possible. She describes the other person with her as nothing more than that, and felt the need to mention that the two were fully clothed at the time Koppenhaver discovered the them together. Koppenhaver on the other hand, tries to make it seem like he couldn’t control himself. Tweeting that if that other man hadn’t been there, he and Mack would be engaged. This whole messed up relationship is a little too outlandish and public for the rest of us. I now feel as though all my past relationships have been extremely healthy in comparison. Good luck, Christy Mack, I hope your face heals as beautiful as it began.
