Exclusive Interview: Bassdread – Cosmic Campout Series
Recently, Sensible Reason sat down with artist Bassdread to talk about the upcoming festival season, wanting to be a preacher and more. Bassdread’s next festival appearance will be Cosmic Campout in Gore, Virginia with Archnemesis, and Damn Right!; you can find tickets and information for Cosmic Campout, here.
For my readers that dont know, can you tell me a bit about what Bassdread is? Or phrased differently, what do you want people leaving a Bassdread show to be thinking to themselves or tell their friends?
“Bassdread was created, in short, to help my brothers and sisters around us. Music is one of the last untouched mediums of exploration and truth and my entire life has been devoted to trying to figure out a way to reach a broad spectrum of people; at one time I had wanted to be a preacher then I moved to fine arts while finally ending with music.”
So what festivals are you most excited to be playing this summer?
“I am most excited for Cosmic Campout because of the mixing of the attendees. But in general, any chance to channel my energy into music is an exciting thing.”
What acts are you most excited to catch while touring this summer -someone playing at a festival you will be at?
I play with Dj DARA and AK1200 which are some personal EDM favorites when it comes to the pioneers of this community.
What is the biggest difference between playing a large festival and a small one? Which do you like better and why?
The difference is the intimacy of the event, between you and the crowd. But larger events allow you to hit more people with your message. I can’t say I like one more than the other, both have their advantages.
When are you at the peak of your creativity? In the morning when you just woke up, when you havent slept for days, right after a run, or really any time that just feels right?
Anytime it feels right really, but mostly on a fresh morning it comes. Or very late in the night, 2-4 AM are prime musical hours.
Whats next for Bassdread, a new album, EP, more relentless touring or maybe a combination?
All of the above and add merchandising on to that!
