The Evolution of Euphoria Festival, A History
The pursuit of happiness, the chase of euphoria is an ever-evolving process. Euphoria Festival is turning itself into a unique Austin favorite by genuinely embracing this notion of change.
Now located at Carson Creek Ranch on April 10-12, 2015, the festival has climaxed to an all-time high with a travel worthy lineup, stunning art installations and other stimulating daytime activities.
But before I go into more detail about all the things the adult wonderland known as Euphoria Festival has to offer, let’s rewind back to where it all started in 2012. Euphoria was born that year as a one-day rave at Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, Texas (just outside of Austin). The festival’s 2012 lineup consisted of all electronic acts. Thunderhill Raceway actually closed for good the following year.
Luckily, Euphoria had gained enough momentum by 2013 to move to a bigger venue in New Braunfels, Texas known as The Whitewater Amphitheater. The festival was extended into a 2-day EDM event with bigger, more impressive electronic names on the bill during its second year, and became a crowd favorite.
Keeping up the active pursuit of true Euphoria, the festival moved once again last year to Carson Creek Ranch in the beautiful city of Austin, Texas. Beyond just moving to the actual Live Music Capital of the World, the festival kicked every attribute of existence up a notch to create an authentic summer music festival experience.
For the first time ever, in 2014, the annual event offered overnight camping, yoga workshops, an art gallery and a silent disco. The festival’s lineup was also greatly diversified to incorporate more jam bands and live acts, creating an eclectic selection for music fans of most tastes. These new editions transformed Euphoria into a genuine summer music festival vibe; the entire atmosphere shifted into a holistic experience with a focus on community and artistic expression.
After a great run last year, the festival will be returning to Carson Creek Ranch again this April with even more surprises and improvements. The first wave of the lineup was dropped last month, stirring up a lot of excitement with the likes of many diverse legends in their own right: STS9, Pretty Lights, Ghostland Observatory, Thievery Corporation and Adventure Club. Following suit of last year, the 2015 edition will also host live painters, an art gallery and other stimulating activities for festival-goers.
There are plenty of music festivals located in the Greater Austin area, but Euphoria has truly established its own flavor and stamina by continuing to evolve and adapt over its few years of being in existence. The festival has grown at an impressively rapid rate over the last years, and it’s truly exciting to imagine how much more this Austin gem will continue to grow over the next few years. One things for sure: Austin loves euphoria.
