Euphoria Track of the Day – Paper Diamond “They Can’t Tell Me Nothing”
We’re throwing back to Paper Diamond’s 2013 Paragon EP “They Can’t Tell Me Nothing”: two and a half minutes of pure fist-pumping indulgence. The track’s energetic, ego-boosting mantra keeps everyone’s hands waving in the air. We dare you not to dance. “They Can’t Tell Me Nothing” quickly became an instant hit with fans at live shows based on its simple, staccato format and its intense duo of bass drops.
The track’s hip hop foundation, which pulls samples and sounds from many influences, is littered with spacey hits and backup chants, giving it a simple but heavy club vibe. The first bass drop comes just after 30 seconds into the track’s buildup and teases the crowd with a mild drop. Simplicity and good rhythm go a long way when inspiring the energy of the crowd. Sometimes all it takes is that one bass line that everyone can feel, rhythmically surging through every bone in their body. You know, that bass line that gets even the shyest of bodies moving. Paper Diamond’s signature drop comes one minute from the end and showcases his unique style of cosmic curiosity.
Paper Diamond’s custom hip hop groove dates back to the early 2000’s when he was the bassist for Pnuma Trio. Slowly transitioning from bass player to DJ, Alexander Botwin became Alex B, who we all now know and love as Paper Diamond.
We all have that one shiny gem of a track that we put on as we’re dressing to impress and choreographing our evening’s dance moves in the mirror. I declare Paper Diamond’s “They Can’t Tell Me Nothing” your two-and-a-half minutes of confidence boosting pre-festival cardio warm up. Get to practicing those shoulder pops and check out the lineup for Euphoria Music Festival, April 10-12 at Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, TX.
