Electric Forest Track Of the Day: Goldroom – “Fifteen”
Festival season is fast approaching us, and while many of us are already paying an arm and a leg for our weekend passes, some lineups haven’t even come out yet! We pay for the experience and wait for the lineup after the fact, a strange sort of gamble we play each summer. Electric Forest sold out in record time this year following the release of their lineup, and it makes perfect sense. This year’s Forest has a lineup that already promises to trump last year, the first year the festival has sold out since its emergence in Rothbury‘s place. One act on the ticket is sure to make a huge EF debut, Goldroom. Today’s track of the day comes from his latest EP Embrace, and it’s called “Fifteen.”
Goldroom, hailing from Los Angeles, has a distinct sound that makes it easy to tell he’s from So Cal. The use of island rhythms mixed with female vocals and an overall romantic tone makes Goldroom the perfect addition to the already eclectic lineup Electric Forest brings each year. “Fifteen” builds and flows with ease, surely to take the listener away to a magical place. Imagining the song in the context of Electric Forest brings alive the powerful art installations and endless maze of hammocks in Sherwood Forest. “Fifteen” has a way of sounding so pure, it seems to make the moment a little brighter. The song’s smooth and driving beat take the listener through the sea of pine needles, then make a slow drift into the treetops above all the energy and nature allowing it to wash over and back down to the interactive beauty below with pure innocence guiding the whole way. Check out some of Goldroom’s originals above, listen to “Fifteen” below, and catch this West Coast legend at Electric Forest in June.
