Don’t Miss Dopapod at Summer Camp
Dopapod has been redefining what it means to jam for over 5 years, and things are picking up for the NYC-based four-piece band, comprised of Eli Winderman on keyboard, Rob Compa on guitar, Chuck Jones on bass and Scotty Zwang on drums. Releasing 3 LPs and more live compilations whilst presenting bold music that seamlessly blends a never-ending variety of genres including funk, jam, jazz, prog-rock, and electronica, America has welcomed the unique idea of Dopapod. As graduates of the Berklee College of Music, their impeccable musicianship at live shows induces hypnotic euphoria, a wildly entertaining sensation for any fan of music and the perfect way to get Summer Campers dancing. Amusingly enough, the name “Dopapod” along with their album titles are palindromes (Drawn Onward, Redivider, I Saw Live Dopapod, Evil Was I).
Last year at Summer Camp, Dopapod rocked the Vibe Tent in an energetic performance, which surely helped secure their spot on the lineup this year. Highlights include their rendition of Alanis Morisettes’ classic “You Oughta Know,” and keyboard master and organ lover Eli Winderman’s bizarre integration of the sounds of a toy laser gun.
With the rare ability to enjoy the fruits of both virtuosic musicianship and addictive song-writing, Dopapod produces dynamic tracks perfect for launching fearless improvisation in a live setting or for dancing to alone with your headphones.
“Dopapod is not so much a jam band as they are a band that improvises. They are an electronic band without computers. They are a metal band with groove and soul. They are a funk band that’s not afraid to get intricate. With no regard towards toward stylistic boundaries, the sound that emerges from the quartet both live and in the studio is as varied and diverse as the many influences that they adapt from. Their approach to complementing a distinct genre bending sound to top-notch musicianship is what has kept the quartet committed to evolving their unique brand.” SOURCE: Dopapod website
Extensive touring with bands like EOTO and Lotus has earned Dopapod a strong following of appreciative fans. They also have a good relationship with Papadosio and gave fans a treat at Catskill Chill last year with “Dopadosio.” Make sure not to miss Dopapod at Summer Camp Music Festival this Memorial Day Weekend, where they will surely win many new fans with their unexpected trickeries.
