Dita Von Teese’s Strip Strip Hooray Preview
If someone dropped the name Dita Von Teese into a conversation, either glamour comes to mind or you’re asking who she is. Dita is credited with reviving burlesque and bringing glamour from the past to modern times. Not only is she an established performer with her hit show Strip Strip Hooray, Teese is one of the world’s most celebrated fashion icons, having recently closed out Jean Paul Gautier’s couture show in a butterfly corset. Last year, Teese also released a haunting track with British synthpop duo Monarchy, “Disintegration,” with a video that complimented the burlesque performer’s glamour.
If you’ve seen the film Burlesque, which stars the legendary Cher and Christina Aguilera, you think you may have an idea of what Strip Strip Hooray is all about. Sadly, the film is a bit misleading as the real burlesque show with Dita embodies much more than that. Costumes (including a corset designed by Mr Pearl), props and acts are essential to the show, with one of her most famous scenes taking place in a giant martini glass where she splashes around. Some of the shows present Teese in a shimmering cowgirl outfit and dolled up like a geisha, the latter taking place during the “Opium Den” act.
The showgirl returns for two consecutive nights at House of Blues, starting off at Dallas, and making its way to Houston and New Orleans.
Tickets are on sale now, ranging from $35 to $100, and a VIP meet and greet is available in Houston for $182 (not including ticket). Visit House of Blues to purchase tickets. Ages 18+ only, ID required.
