D.C.-Based Record Label OMUMO Showcase Talent With Latest Sampler
Today’s musical landscape is as exciting as it has ever been. Now more than ever, independent artists are finding platforms from which they can reach the masses. No matter what genre or style of music you are interested in, there is certainly an audience who is plugged into that same vibe. So because of this ever growing and changing landscape, we are seeing more niche music labels grow into considerable forces in terms of talent and vision. One budding music label that is determined to satisfy a wide array of musical tastes is the Washingtonian D.C. outfit OMUMO.
OMUMO is a Washington, D.C.-based independent record label founded in 2015 by Brad Atefi, an American multi-instrumentalist and producer. The projects on the label contain elements of folk, rock, hip-hop and electronic music, while maintaining unique artistry and songwriting. With their latest compilation project, OMUMO have assembled an impressive coalition of homegrown D.C. artists to exemplify their varied sound. By channeling inspiration from Daft Punk, Pavement, Spiritualized, Ween, Handsome and Boy Modeling School, OMUMO hits upon various sonic textures.
Vin Mariana deliver a anger with the lead off single “Maze,” which is a sweet futuristic adaptation of American folk rock. In “Let It Be My Fate to Die Alone,” Mamas Boiz grab hold of an incredibly genuine sound that exists somewhere between bluesy folk and new age indie rock. Persian Doll display an exciting global flair with their exotic tack “Curse Of Wisdom.” Perhaps my favorite song on the entire sampler is the contemplative hit, “The Beginning Of A New Era,” by Oxindol. The tracks slow yet deliberate build up takes the song to another level. Oxindol exhibits real production talent with his sophisticated approach, reminding me of electronic greats like Emancipator and Random Rab.
This entire production is a fantastic example of OMUMO’s scope as a label. There is certainly something for everyone to grab hold of. From hip-hop to folk, this label have a truly extensive knowledge of what’s to come.
