Bang On! NYC Rings in the New Year with Lee Foss and Anabel Englund!
When you spend New Year’s Eve in New York City you can almost be overwhelmed with the staggering multitude of parties and events that engulf the five boroughs over the 24 hour free for all. In the City that never sleeps there are thousands of things to do when the ball drops and selecting the right shindig to hit could set the tone for your entire new year. I like to start of the year at a show I have never been to before, and in my opinion it is the perfect way to kick your year off with a renewed sense of adventure and dedication to musical exploration. This year my heart was set on checking out the sensual songwriting duo behind the Pleasure State parties, Anabel Englund and Lee Foss, perform live. The mad geniuses over at BangON! have made a name for themselves as one of the premiere production outfits in all of NYC. If you want be immersed in an absolutely amazing party atmosphere, BangON! have the know how to get you lost.
It was three months in the making but BangON!’s 2015 New Year’s Eve event, Time+Space, was definitely worth the wait. A magnificent 32,000 square foot secret warehouse location in Brooklyn was transformed into something out of a J.J. Abram’s-directed rave movie sequence. The expansive and impressively decorated space was teeming full of exciting sideshows to stop and marvel, including a new BangON! art car, interactive art installations party-goers could climb, UFO flying saucers buzzing around, and tons of space aged technology like 3D projection mapping and a holographic midnight countdown.
The space was outfitted with a top of the line Funktion-One sound system which kept the two lavishly lit stages rocking in sonic perfection. The night was full of some exceptional performances by Thriftworks, Sweater Beats and Gladkill just to name a few of the sets that really stood out for me. I loved the immersive nature of the entire event. Once you stepped into Time+Space there was no going back, I was happily stuck in a vortex of bizarrely dressed revelers and science fiction themed madness. I befriended exceptional music lovers, unique individuals you would never catch at a bottle service club. I must say it was awesome to avoid the fussy crowds and exorbitant prices that some of the City’s biggest shows were boasting. BangON! is a company dedicated to bringing the New York’s underground electronic music scene the best possible shows and events, without sacrificing the authenticity of the music or cutting corners.
The night’s headliners Lee Foss and Anabel Englund put on one of the sexiest sets I have seen to date. It is no wonder that these two Pleasure State founders have garnered such an incredible following around the globe. The connection between these two is almost telepathic, and with Lee’s killer beats and Annabel’s alluring vocals this duo can put any crowd in the mood. There are very few live performers in dance music today who have a similar cache to Anabel Englund. This angelic singer and songwriter has the ability to hypnotize and enchant in ways most performer’s only dream about. Anabel pranced around on stage with a capriciousness that was quite simply magnetic, with a voice that seemed to ease away the winter aches from joints. All the while Lee Foss mixed a deep medley of house tracks that mingled perfectly with the eerie futuristic design of the venue.
If you didn’t get the chance to check out Space+Time or if you would just like to relive all of the New Year’s Eve fun, you can listen to Lee Foss’s entire set below.
