Backwoods TOTD: SunSquabi – “After The Rain”
The anticipation of festival season can kick start wintertime blues, but luckily great musicians give listeners a way to shake off the cold and feel those blissful summertime vibes. SunSquabi recently released their newest single, “After the Rain,” to promote their upcoming Odyssey EP. Hailing from Boulder, Colorado, the trio specializes in Electronic Hydro Funk. Are you unsure of what that sounds like? All Good Records says, “SunSquabi make it look easy — so groovy and smooth.”
An induced state of relaxation and euphoria is the most common side effect after listening to SunSquabi. “After the Rain“ was introduced to fans at the perfect time with the first glimpses of spring — and of course, lots of rain. There’s something about this time of seasons changing that reminds us reawaken and begin anew. SunSquabi follows suit with a track that cleanses the listener’s soul.
The track begins with guitar raindrops while synths dry the dew. A sexy, sensual melody draws us further into the sound that SunSquabi shapes to suggest spring. Drums guide a forward propulsion towards the sun and a new sense of being. While listening to “After the Rain,” I imagine cruising on a sunny morning with a delicious cup of coffee and feeling ready to take on the day. The guitar swoons the soul while the keys give the track its smooth feel. “After the Rain” reminds us that festival season is approaching, and that’s definitely something to smile about!
