Superstar DJs and producers like Justin Martin, Walker & Royce, Will Clarke, Shiba San, Justin Jay, Ardalan, J.Phlip, and of course big papa Claude VonStroke have launched their careers with DIRTYBIRD. The success of the label is encapsulated by the several festivals and nationwide events series that DIRTYBIRD holds each year. There is no doubt that making it big with this iconic group of artists is a dream for many aspiring musicians. So one can only imagine the joy and motivation felt by 17-year-old Brazilian producer Cour T.
As the youngest ever DJ to join DIRTYBIRD Cour T. is undoubtedly one of the brightest talents of his generation. Firmly taken under the wing of Claude VonStroke himself he made his USA debut at Dirtybird Campout in 2019 and will be headlining the label’s upcoming shows in São Paulo and his hometown of Curitiba. With a bright future ahead of him we took the time to chat with Cour T. about joining the famous label, playing massive festivals and what he has in store for the world.
Sensible Reason: How does it feel like to be the youngest signed Dirtybird artist and did you ever envision yourself making it here at this age?
Cour T.: This is something that makes me very happy, participating in Dirtybird has always been a dream, today I can say that it came true!
SR: When did you start producing music and who are some artists that inspired you?
Cour T.: Without a doubt, in the electronic scene my biggest influences were Claude Vonstroke, Bruno Furlan and Holt 88
SR: How much did you know about Dirtybird before you got signed? How did Claude find you?
Cour T.: When I was younger I listened to the song “Make a Cake” by Boss, in my brother’s car. And since then I was fascinated by that style of sound. In October 2018 I sent the demo of “Black Magic” (My first release on DB)
for the label, after a few anxious months I received the news that they wanted to sign and that Claude was playing in several sets around the world.
SR: What is the dance music scene like Brazil? Were you going to raves and festivals before you got signed to Dirtybird?
Cour T.: The Brazilian scene is constantly evolving, it is something very diverse, I am happy for the current Brazilian sound. Despite my age I have been going to electronic parties since I was 15 years old
SR: Being 17 years old and already making hits do you ever feel pressure to produce certain types of tracks or do you feel free to experiment?
Cour T.: I think that was never a problem for me, I do what comes to my mind at the time of inspiration. I always try to do something different and distant from what most produce trying to take my identity for each track.
SR: What was it like playing for a crowd who’s much older then you are? Does it feel good to know that age doesn’t matter when it comes to making music?
Cour T.: It’s amazing, seeing people twice or triple their age enjoying their sounds and praising is really special. I believe only in good music, regardless of age, after a certain point it is a great responsibility, but with wisdom everything goes well
SR: Where do you see yourself musically 5 years from now?
Cour T.: I want to be more mature, both sonically, professionally and personally. Working hard to achieve my goals, doing what I love. Playing at big parties, traveling the world.
SR: Are there any types of genres outside of house and techno that excite you?
Cour T.: I love Rap, Miami Bass, Minimal, Trap, in general I hear a little of everything and I take as reference a lot
SR: What is your dream music festival to play?
Cour T.: At the moment I think the festival Universo Paralelo (Brazil) and EDC (USA)
SR: What are you most excited for in 2020?
Cour T.: I’m working on my first album, and it’s been very pleasant and challenging. 2020 will be a blessed year for all types of artists.
